About a year ago I finally took the step towards gaining some more flexibility in my body. I have been an avid runner for more than 25 years, and over the past 7 years I became a long distance walker, especially on the Camino to Santiago de Compostela. However, both running and walking are not exactly body-flexibility-promoting activities and as we age, maintaining a level of agility can be healthy.
I somewhat suspected that Yoga could help me to maintain at least my current level of flexibility and could possibly even increase it (not that I have the illusion of ever becoming a contortionist). Having seen some Yoga videos on YouTube, I did have some anxiety about the postures. Could I do it? And when tight up in an exercise, could I ever leave that posture again? It was a hurdle, but I ended up finding a local Yoga studio with a teacher I trust and who actually gave me sufficient confidence to get started.
I started with Yin Yoga and I have learned a lot over the past year. It appears that I actually have more flexibility in my body than I ever expected! Also I’m still learning that Yoga is way more than just a physical exercise. Most importantly, I experienced that, yet again, good guidance is indispensable. My teacher’s guidance continues to help me develop my Yoga skills and flexibility. Her coaching gives me, now via video, the nudges I need to go the extra mile every single time.
That’s exactly what good coaching does. It helps you to develop towards your desired direction and provides you with accountability nudges when needed. This is indispensable in today’s business environment: an environment that asks for far more flexibility than ever before.
